Slumdog Millionaire

Published by chris6818 under Crime, Drama, Romance Edit This

Starring: Dev Patel, Anil Kapoor, Freida Pinto and Irrfan Khan

This movie has been on my list of films to watch for a couple weeks now. I have been putting it off and putting it off until one of my friends on stumble upon had asked me if I had seen this movie yet. My friend said that it was a very good movie. Being skeptic of watching a so called Bollywood film I took his advice and sat down to watch it last night. I have to thank my friend for suggesting this movie,  I was very surprised at the excellent story and acting job of the young children in this movie.

The story is a tale of destiny, triumph and the fight for one’s true love. Two orphaned brothers who grew up in slums of India and both falling for the same girl. The story opens up where Dev Patel is a contestant on India’s version of the game show Who Wants To Be A  Millionaire, sorry Regis does not play the host. Patel has reached the top and is going for the final question, before he can answer the show comes to an end and is asked to return the following day. Meanwhile the show’s host suspects him of cheating so they take him away for questioning. Officials want to know how a young boy who grew up in the slums of India can know all the answers to questions that not even more qualified intelligent people could answer.

As Patel is being questioned they flashback to his past and somehow through his distinct and painful memories we see just how he knew the answers. Patel’s reason for being on the show was not for the money but to win the heart of a girl that he has loved his whole life.

I was genuinely entertained throughtout this movie with such a rare setting and flashbacks of coming of age.  Outstanding  devoloped characters make this a winning illusion of undying love. If this movie does not recieve an Oscar nomination I will be shocked. I give this movie a rating of an 8, a must see film.

The Unborn

Published by chris6818 under Horror, Thriller Edit This

Starring: Odette Yustman, Gary Oldman, Cam Gigandet and Meagan Good

This movie will hit theaters on January 9th. The movie is rated PG13 and after watching the trailer it looks like it is going to be a decent horror film.

The story is about a girl that is haunted by a demonic spirit that is trying to cross over into our world. She finds out that she had a twin brother who died in uterial and he is threatening everyone she loves. She contacts her spiritual advisor (Oldman) the only person that she thinks can help her.

By viewing the trailer it looks like there is going to be an exorcism to rid her of the demonic spirit, also there is a part they show with a guy whose head is all the way turned around. It is bringing back memories of The Exorcist. I am really into horror flicks and can’t wait until this movie hits the theaters to see it. Lately I haven’t seen any really good horror movies, they just don’t make good scary movies anymore. I will just have to wait and see.

Passengers

Published by chris6818 under Horror, Thriller Edit This

Starring: Anne Hathaway, Patrick Wilson, Andre Braugher, Dianne Wiest and David Morse

The movie starts off where there is a plane crash and a few survivors are walking around the crash site in a state of shock. Then we meet a grief counselor (Hathaway) who is assigned by her mentor to help the five survivors. One by one the victims begin to disappear and Hathaway must figure out the mystery. She falls for one of the victims and gets romantically involved with (Wilson) the one whom she thinks holds all the answers and the key to uncovering the truth behind the crash.

I must say that I was totally confused throughout the film. The strange occurrences that were happening and the reason an airline associate was trying to cover up any wrong doings for the airline. All my questions were answered in the last 15 minutes of the movie which I must say came as quite a surprising shock. I am not a big fan of Anne Hathaway but I thought she did an admiral job in her role and Patrick Wilson who I never heard of until the recent movie Lakeview Terrace was a very believable character.

If you like a good mystery that keeps you thinking the whole movie then I would recommend seeing this. The genre this movie is listed under is horror and thriller but I don’t consider this a horror movie at all. More of a mystery thriller to me. I give this movie a rating of a 5.
