Slumdog Millionaire

Published by chris6818 at 12:34 pm under Crime, Drama, Romance Edit This

Starring: Dev Patel, Anil Kapoor, Freida Pinto and Irrfan Khan

This movie has been on my list of films to watch for a couple weeks now. I have been putting it off and putting it off until one of my friends on stumble upon had asked me if I had seen this movie yet. My friend said that it was a very good movie. Being skeptic of watching a so called Bollywood film I took his advice and sat down to watch it last night. I have to thank my friend for suggesting this movie,  I was very surprised at the excellent story and acting job of the young children in this movie.

The story is a tale of destiny, triumph and the fight for one’s true love. Two orphaned brothers who grew up in slums of India and both falling for the same girl. The story opens up where Dev Patel is a contestant on India’s version of the game show Who Wants To Be A  Millionaire, sorry Regis does not play the host. Patel has reached the top and is going for the final question, before he can answer the show comes to an end and is asked to return the following day. Meanwhile the show’s host suspects him of cheating so they take him away for questioning. Officials want to know how a young boy who grew up in the slums of India can know all the answers to questions that not even more qualified intelligent people could answer.

As Patel is being questioned they flashback to his past and somehow through his distinct and painful memories we see just how he knew the answers. Patel’s reason for being on the show was not for the money but to win the heart of a girl that he has loved his whole life.

I was genuinely entertained throughtout this movie with such a rare setting and flashbacks of coming of age.  Outstanding  devoloped characters make this a winning illusion of undying love. If this movie does not recieve an Oscar nomination I will be shocked. I give this movie a rating of an 8, a must see film.

I skipped through this show. -wry- I don’t know, it -was- a good story, but it seemed rather surreal and somewhat painful in bits to me. Has a good heart, though.
