The Wrestler
Starring: Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood and Mark Margolis
The movie is about a retired wrestler who tries to hang on for one last match with a former rival. His dedication to the sport caused him to be alienated from his daughter. After having a heart attack and being told to never wrestle again he then tries to get back some of his life by trying to get to know his daughter again and trying to make a honest living doing whatever he can to get by. He also has a thing for a stripper in a local nightclub that he tries to start a relationship with. His undeniable passion for the sport eventually gets him into the ring for one last fight.
Let me start by saying that Mickey Rourke was phenomenal not only did he beef up for the role but he brought the character to life making me really feel for him. As for Marisa Tomei she played an outstanding part as well. Some of the wrestling matches are very bloody and dynamic and there are very impressive stunts. The movie has been nominated for 3 Golden Globe awards and also 7 various other nominations. Rourke has already received best actor award by the Chicago Film Critics Association.
This is a very powerful film and a slam dunk performance by Rourke and Tomei, a definite must see movie. I was a little disappointed in the ending because it leaves you hanging but my rating would be an 8.
