Notorious
Starring: Jamal Woolard, Mohamed Dione, Derek Luke, Dennis LA White, Marc John Jefferies, Christopher Jordan Wallace and Angela Bassett
The story is the biography of the rap artist know as Notorious B.I.G. aka Biggie Smalls. The life and death of a man from Brooklyn who broke into the music business with his rapping hip hop style.
Although I do like some rap songs and some hip hop, I am not really a fan of that genre of music but I really enjoyed this film. It was really interesting to find out that even though his life was filled with hardship, bad behavior and danger his joy was focused on not only making it big in the music industry but being a good father, son and in general a better person.
The acting from Christopher Jordan Wallace who played Biggie from the ages of 8 to 13 and Jamal Woolard who played him as an adult was truly a stellar performance. Angela Bassett who played his mother was amazing in the way she portrayed being such a strict parent but also a very loving one. The movie was based on interviews and facts of Biggie’s life, depicting not only the bad side of him, but makes us understand just how much of a big heart that he truly had.
The movie does not answer the question of who shot and killed Biggie, to this day his murder is unsolved, but dwells in the realm of aspirations and the difficult times in which comes a successful recital of one man’s brief time but widely impressionable life.
