This is the story of a 14 year old girl who has had a past troubled life with her father since she was age 4 when her mother died. Trying to get answers about her mother from her abusive father was hopeless so she decides to run away from home with her only friend her caregiver. They end up in a town where she thinks her mother once was with a family of sisters who take them in that have a successful honey making business. There she will ultimately find the answers she was looking for about her mother.
I wanted to see this movie because of the powerful and talented women that play in it. A very delightful heartwarming tale of love, coming of age, tragedy, race and most of all hope. Dakota was cute and touching in her performance but Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys were riveting and captivating. I didn’t realize that Alicia Keys could act and was pleasantly surprised.
A very powerful well acted story with very strong character personalities one that will hopefully tug on your heart as it did mine. I give it a rating of an 8.
